The building would have been extended and became a farmstead known as une borie, that is to say a beef farm. The name of the District is the Bouriane and the name is said to derive from the idea of the cattle farms. As time went on the landscape developed with vines and sheep. Cattle are now rare. The landscape consists of small fields amongst undulating hills enfolded between many woods. It is particularly rich in wild orchids but you should read the attached link on ‘natural history’ to discover more.
We enjoy studying the natural life and the landscape history and from this are developed short articles which you will find through an attached link. Brian’s botanical knowledge has an outlet in leading a small group of interested French people in discovering the plants of the district.
One of our daughters (an ex- maths teacher) has come to live nearby and is developing our land partially for the production of ‘cut-flowers’ for commerce.
There is adjacent to our main
accommodation, but in its origin a separate building (all services are in
common) a guest apartment. It was established to accommodate our three
daughters and their families and all our friends on visits. We have a number of American,
The guest apartment is on the first and second floor of the house in the above photo, adjacent to our own accommodation which is in the building on the left of the photo. This guest apartment has its own separate entrances. Our garage and a cave (various utility rooms) and a private study are beneath it..
The main living space in on the same level as the terrace. This floor has a large bedroom with a king sized double bed. Also there is a 7 metre by 5 metre living room with TV (English and French channels), and cd, cassette and radio apparatus. The bathroom and kitchen are both modern and fully equipped.
An oak staircase leads to the top floor. Here there is another large bedroom with a normal sized double bed. Adjacent is a salle d’eau with toilet and wash-hand basin. A third lavatory is available to visitors in the 'cave' (or cellar floor) on the ground floor, where it is easily accessed from the garden area.
The kitchen has a ceramic hob, integrated oven, dishwasher and fridge with a small freezer compartment. Visitors are invited to use by informal arrangement, our clothes washing machine. This is located in the cave below the accommodation.

The apartment has its own private terrace seen in the photo below. It overlooks our land and the countryside beyond towards the setting sun. Another sitting area is under an arbour of trees on the south side.

The rental is considerably less for such extended stays and reflects the convenience for both guests and ourselves.
